RECREATIONAL KAYAKING CLASSES

 

Try Kayaking

First-time paddlers welcome! Get comfortable and familiar with paddling basics in your choice of a sit-on-top kayak or a sit-inside recreational kayak. Learn paddling strokes and develop boat control while having fun on the water. Held on Forge Pond and the Metedeconk River. For adults and children ages 7 and up who can swim. All equipment is provided--kayak (single or double), paddle, and PFD/ lifejacket. Also see the Kayaking for Women and Kayaking for Seniors versions of this class below.

$30 per person or $90 for a family (up to 4 members); fee includes all equipment

Tuesday afternoons and eveningsbeginning in May into September, dates to be announced in early 2012

 

Introduction to Recreational Kayaking

An introduction to kayaking for beginners or first-time paddlers. Basic paddling skills are presented and practiced, so that you can safely and comfortably enjoy your time on the water. You will also learn how to get in and out of your boat, what you should take with you, which safety gear you need. Self-rescue--how to get back in your kayak from the water, will be demonstrated. For sit-on-top kayaks, recreational kayaks, and sea kayaks.

$70 includes all equipment; $60 with your own equipment (first 1/2 hour of class is boat fitting and set up)

Saturdays and Sundays beginning in May into September, dates to be announced in early 2012

 

Kayaking for Women Series

Enjoy paddling with other women in this daytime version of Try Kayaking just for women. First-time paddlers are welcome. Get comfortable and familiar with paddling basics in your choice of a sit-on-top kayak or a sit-inside recreational kayak. Learn paddling strokes, develop boat control, and get a light workout while having fun on scenic Forge Pond and the Metedeconk River. Come to one session or come back for many. All equipment is provided--kayak (single or double), paddle, and PFD/ lifejacket, or you’re welcome to bring along your own kayak and gear.

$30 per person or $100 for any four sessions (must register all at once)

Wednesdays 9:30 – 11:30 am, May into September, dates to be announced in early 2012

 

Kayaking for Seniors Series

Kayaking is a great sport for just about everybody—it’s easy on the joints, you sit in a relaxed position and you can get as little or as much of a workout as you wish. Join us in this seniors’ version of our Try Kayaking class, with extra attention and pointers on getting in and out of the kayak, keeping stable and not falling in the water, and other pointers to make kayaking comfortable and relaxing. Come once or come back for more sessions and enjoy the paddle around scenic Forge Pond and up the Metedeconk River. No experience necessary. All equipment is provided—your choice of sit-on-top or sit-inside kayak (single or double), paddle, and PFD/ lifejacket, or you’re welcome to bring along your own kayak and gear.
