Yoga for Paddlers
Bring your yoga mat or a beach towel and practice yoga poses, stretches and exercises that are especially helpful for paddlers in toning, strengthening, and increasing flexibility for paddlers. Anna Levesque, creator of the Girls at Play instructional video series, will lead this workshop--no previous experience with yoga is needed, all levels welcome.
Anna Levesque, Recreational Kayaking for Women - Get tips and guidance for women who are just getting into recreational kayaking or who want to add to their knowledge base. Anna will share tips on how to lift and carry your kayak, how to choose the right kayak, what to look for in quality gear and how to pick a good rack system. Anna will also go over tips on stroke technique and safety so that you get the most out of your kayak outing whether you’re going on a leisurely paddle, or trying to get a workout.
Packing Tips for Your Canoe Trip
One of the most challenging aspects of going on an overnight canoe camping trip is figuring out what to take and how to pack it. This program will explore various options for packing your gear to keep it dry, accessible, and balanced in your boat. Tips for packaging your food, clothing, and valuable electronics like the camera will be covered as well as methods to load the canoe for safety and performance. We’ll share years of experience with various methods to this madness and hopefully provide some good tips to save you time and energy.
Kay Henry & Rob Center, Come Kayak and Canoe on the Northern Forest Canoe Trail - Over 50 outdoor adventures from a half day to a week or longer can be enjoyed on the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, the longest inland water trail in the Northeastern United States. Linking the watersheds of northern New England and the Adirondacks by following historic Native American travel routes the program will celebrate the people and diverse landscape of the Northern Forest region by taking you on a paddling smorgasbord – crossing lakes big and small, swift water rivers, portages, past mill towns and rural villages, through pastoral farmland and expansive forests. You will canoe and kayak sections of the 740 mile trail through four states - New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine – and even a short section in Québec, discover inns, B & B’s and camping facilities while experiencing a slice of America’s frontier past - without getting your feet wet!

Even though kayaking is inherently a low-impact activity for the environment, there are some things you can do to insure that your kayaking and camping trip is even more low impact. The Mayor's Cup New York City Kayak Championship is an elite kayaking race around Manhattan Island. This 26.7-mile marathon race is North America's premier paddlesports event and New York City's largest water event. The Mayor's Cup will draw some of the world's and region's most accomplished paddlers while raising money and awareness for the region's most vigilant environmental group, Riverkeeper. Ben Lawry, - Starting on dry land we work through the muscle sequences for the forward stroke. Then we take those new skills and learn how to apply them to your paddling. Everyone spends 98% of their time paddling forward so this gives you the opportunity to tune up those skills. You will also take home a group of exercises that will enable you to work on your stroke for months.
The rugged shores of Canada's eastern-most province have changed little since the first Europeans arrived over five hundred years ago. Deep fjords with abrupt, barren walls alternate with the coastal islands to provide a captivating land/seascape. Enormous icebergs drift by early in the season accompanied by the large baleen whales that follow the schools of capelin close into shore and the isolated outposts. This is fascinating world paddling domain that remains, for most, unknown and untouched.
Scott Cunningham, S - Nova Scotia, with its thousands of kilometers of bays, beaches, harbors and headlands has claimed some of the most spectacular coastline on the continent. Journey from our stark and rugged Atlantic shoreline to the cliffs of the Cape Breton Highlands, or over the highest tides on earth in the Bay of Fundy to the warm waters and sand beaches of our North Shore. This is sea kayaking at its best where you can camp in the pristine isolation of a deserted isle, where your only companions are the seals and sea birds.
